A few hospital and outpatient clinic scenes....

Last Monday was a particularly busy day at the PMI (under 5s clinic). All of these mamas waited patiently for their turn to see one of the screeners. The screeners treated many but the sickest were sent to Susie and another doctor for care. Many of the children seen by the doctors were admitted urgently for treatment of severe malaria.

The  general outpatient clinic was also super busy last Monday. Screeners were able to care for many including those who came for med refills, arthritic pain,, minor stomach discomfort, and similar problems.. For sicker patients, they wrote "voir dr" (see doctor) on the card and those patients were seen by Dave and one other doctor.  We see many patients with extremely high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart failure.  Also, some cases of TB, pneumonia, dehydration, "failure to thrive", and cancer (liver cancer, related to chronic hepatitis, is common here).
Each morning, mothers of malnourished children line up to get their daily supply of F-75, a specially formulated therapeutic milk. These children are adorable!!

This is B-Ward, one of the general medical wards. The proposed new medical wards building will be a welcome and wonderful addition for patients and staff alike!!!!

B-Ward from a different angle.

Several times each week, we see an X-ray like this. This is from a 25 year old man with one month history of cough, sputum, weight  loss, and sweats who has not responded to strong oral antibiotics.......he is in a private room as we await the TB tests on his sputum. Even if they are negative, he will  almost certainly be treated for TB based on his history and X Ray.

Susie has enjoyed working with her translator, Sunday. Notice his Barcelona soccer jersey!!
