Je Suis Jerome--Chapter Two

Jerome was supposed to return for follow up last week.  We began to pray and asked our Chaplain Jeremy to try to find him.  This Tuesday Jerome arrived!! He looks great and is feeling well.  We were rejoicing that his leg wound and problem is resolving. His blood count showed a high white cell count of 175,00 and anemia with Hct 20%---stable from two weeks ago.  Dr. Bryant Ward did a Bone Marrow biopsy that will be sent to the U.S. this week. We spent time helping him to understand that he has a life threatening disease, Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia that can be treated.

We are thankful that special treatment (Hydrea) has been provided and pray for ability to get the best option for him in the future (Gleevac). For now, we are thanking God for Jerome's faith and for how God will use Jerome in the future.
Jerome did not come for his appointment because of "money trouble" and an unpaid hospital bill of $550.  This amount of money for a hospital stay, surgery and transfusion of ten units of blood seems small for Americans but is an unreachable amount for many Togolese.
