Scenery and Birds of the Masai Mara

We were surprised to see the varied terrain of the Mara. Some areas were flat plains as we had expected while other areas were hilly and tree covered. Two of our game drives were early morning so we were able to experience the beautiful African sunrise and two of our drives were late afternoon so we saw the spectacular sunsets of the Masai Mara.

Glorious sunrise!!

Hills, trees, tall grass (beware of lions!)

Plains as far as the eye can see. The Mara is crisscrossed with paths like these.

Crested crane

a Superb Starling

Typical ostrich

An inquisitive owl

Our favorite - the colorful Lilac Roller

Dramatic sunset over the African plain
