In Search of the "Big Five"

Many people talk about the "big 5" which include the lion, cape buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopard. We were hoping to see as many of those as possible but also anxious to see zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, impalas, gazelles, topi, wildebeest, and the various monkeys.  Seeing many of these in their natural habitat  was an incredible experience we will not soon forget!!!

Topi

Elephants are surprisingly friendly!

Zebras almost always travel in groups and enjoy the company
of  giraffes and wildebeests.

Time for a catnap for these two cheetahs

A very lazy baboon

Giraffes move with elegance and grace

Typical scene of peaceful coexistence

Hyenas

Cape buffalo are said to be among the most aggressive animals -
we kept our distance to avoid a "charge"

A huge male lion resting in the tall grass

A lioness at rest - from what we could tell, lions like to rest a lot!

This big guy had a crooked face and looked like he had been in a few battles!

We were thrilled to see this leopard - some folks go to the Mara many times
before spotting one of these rare animals

We'll be back!!!!!!
