We arrived in Abuja, Nigeria Friday Feb 15 and overnighted at the Daughters of Divine Love Guesthouse along with 12 construction folks we met at the Frankfurt, Germany airport. The next AM, after a modest breakfast, we and all of our luggage piled into 2 vans for the 7 1/2 hour ride to Egbe. The first half was on decent roads with few potholes but the second half was a quite bouncy!! Upon arrival, we were met by several missionaries who showed us to our "home" and we met one of our housemates, Chris from Canada. We had dinner at the guesthouse where there were more introductions all around. The next AM, we walked the 5 minute walk to the nearest church - the service lasted 3 hours (not exagerating!) but mercifully, the large room had 15 ceiling fans to blunt the 100+ degree heat!!
Monday morning, we met up with the residents at the hospital at "morning report" and started our work which we'll talk more about in future posts.
For now, we'll attach a few pictures........

Road near Egbe - very typical for rural Africa!!! |
|
Home sweet home!! We have a bedroom and share the living area and kitchen with 2 guys,
a Canadian volunteer and a Nigerian engineer. |

Susie in the living/dining area. |

The only nearby shopping is across the street at this nice lady's version
of 7-11. |
|
Our water filter - water is added to the top and goes through ceramic filters
to the bottom tank. Much more convenient than boiling water! |
|
40 degrees Celsius in the shade.......104 degrees Fahrenheit!!!

So, we're off to a good start!!
