Happy New Year!!
We spent 6 days over New Year's with Ma and Pa Radecky in Geneva, Illinois. Dad slipped on the ice the day after Christmas, fractured his pelvis, and spent three days in the hospital. Thankfully, he did not need surgery !! We were glad we could help them get acclimated to things - use of a walker, grocery shopping, etc. They are doing well now though limiting their comings and goings due to the hassle of Dad's limited mobility. Their anticipated time in Florida is on hold for now - hopefully, they will be able to go in a month or so !

I enjoyed the chance to run outside while in Illinois - it was a nice change from my usual time on a treadmill at the local YMCA !! Thanks to wearing multiple "layers", I survived even though it was only 18 degrees one day. Here's a picture of me on New Year's Day when the temp made it all the way to 34 !! ...........In less than two weeks, we'll be "enjoying" temps near 100 each day !! They have ceiling fans but the electricity sometimes goes out so we're bringing battery operated fans at the advice of a friend who recently served at Galmi Hospital.
Today we leaped the major hurdle of initial "serious" packing for our trip. We have 3 suitcases/duffles at 50 pounds and the fourth is waiting for meds and other supplies we'll be taking to Niger. The airlines will also allow us each to take a carry on case and either small backpack or purse ......so, it looks like we'll have enough room for all the things we hope to take for our 2 1/2 months away. Of course, some of the items are sort of optional............like M&Ms, chocolate baking chips, a few jars of peanut butter (most of these are to share with our missionary friends) and some oatmeal, coffee, and 12 dozen ClifBars (which we have found work just fine for a quick lunch).
Starting with this posting, we'll have a list of prayer requests over on the left column.
That's about it for now. God's blessings to each one who reads this.
