We are in a very nice apartment on the Galmi compound. It has a nice sitting area, dining table, kitchen with all of the usual appliances, and a nice large bathroom with shower. There are 4 ceiling fans in the main living area, 2 or 3 of which we usually have on, and a good A/C unit in the bedroom. .....We have the same simple meals for breakfast and dinner every day (see below) but mix things up for dinner with rice, beans, lentils, tuna salad, omelets, or pasta, usually with some locally made tortillas or baguettes! It is easy to be a vegetarian here!!! .......some advantages of living in the sub-Saharan climate: laundry dries in less than one hour, homemade yogurt is made on the kitchen counter, dinner never "gets cold".
Our breakfasts are old fashioned oatmeal which we brought from home, topped with golden raisins and a few almonds and accompanied by our daily Malarone pill to prevent malaria! |
We brought an indoor/outdoor thermometer which has been fun to monitor. In the early morning, it is a cool 75-78 degrees but, by midday, it is usually well over 100 outside!! Our fans and AC keep it 10-15 degrees lower than the outside.
Friendly lizards, ranging from 4 to 10 inches like to roam along our outside walls ..........
.......There is a playground right next to our apartment where we often hear the laughter of children playing!
