A stroll around the Hospital of Hope (HOH).....

HOH has multiple single story buildings connected by covered walkways, which are very helpful in the rainy season! These buildings are well constructed and are all faced in Akata stone. The outpatient clinic has 4 rooms for general medicine visits, several rooms for outpatient surgical visits and minor procedures, obstetrics- gyne, and chaplains. A separate building has the laboratory, radiology unit, and 3 operating rooms, which are called the "bloc". The inpatient wards have a central nursing station with various surrounding sections for emergency ("reanimation", as it is called here), critical care, pediatrics ICU, general pediatrics, and adults. The hospital has a large inpatient pediatric census with many premature babies who require close care.

Outpatient clinic, where Dave spends
most of his time. This is an early morning picture, taken before the benches are filled with people waiting to be seen.

The clinic rooms are spacious and well equipped. There is a computer terminal where lab tests can be ordered and results checked plus xrays can be viewed as well. This is very efficient and much improves patient flow!

Here, we are standing outside the clinic, looking through the lab/xray/surgery building, and in the distance can see the inpatient hospital.

Notice the beautiful stone work.

The lab, shown above and below, is very well equipped, does many tests including cultures, and provides rapid results to inpatient and outpatient areas via the computer terminals.
